Memorial Tree Program

The Western Springs Park District’s Commemorative Tree Program offers a meaningful way to honor a loved one, celebrate a milestone, or recognize a special occasion. Your contribution not only creates a lasting tribute but also supports the enhancement and natural beauty of our parks.

Why Plant a Tree?

Trees provide lasting benefits to the community and environment by:

1. Stabilizing soil and reducing erosion
2. Offering habitat and food for wildlife
3. Improving air quality
4. Conserving water resources

Program Details

1. Trees and benches can be donated year-round.
2. Tree plantings take place in spring and fall, aligned with the Park District’s reforestation efforts.
3. Benches are installed as weather and scheduling allow.
4. Participants work closely with Park District staff to select an appropriate tree species and planting location. Please note that:
5. Tree availability varies by season.
6. Selection is based on site conditions, soil health, and long-term sustainability in our climate zone.
7. All commemorative trees are professionally planted, monitored, and maintained by Park District staff.

We offer a variety of tree types suited to different landscape needs:

1. Shade Trees: Large canopy trees ideal for cooling and beauty.
2. Examples: Oak, Maple, Linden, Elm
3. Conifers: Evergreens that maintain foliage year-round.
4. Examples: Pine, Spruce, Fir, Juniper
5. Ornamental Trees: Smaller trees known for seasonal flowers or vibrant fall color.

How to Participate -

1. Select a Tree: View our Available tree listings to see where you can leave a lasting legacy in our community. These trees have all been identified by our city and are best for our locations.
2. Submit Payment: On your identified Available tree, click ‘Participate Now' to check out and pay online. You will receive an email with a letter acknowledging your tax-deductible contribution. If you wish to pay by check, please drop off your check at city hall.
